Art at noon to Augusto Giacometti's "Bergbach", 1904

Augusto Giacometti is one of the outstanding painters in the succession of Art Nouveau and Symbolism. With his non-figurative painting in the 1910s, he is one of the pioneers of abstract painting. The "Bergbach" from the collection of the Graubünden Art Museum is one of Giacometti's best-known early works from the Art Nouveau period. The primary motif of Art Nouveau is nature and the plant world, which are stylized into flat, linearly curved ornaments. Augusto Giacometti, a second cousin of Giovanni Giacometti, was less interested in the arabesque than in a new conception of color. In the Kunst am Mittag event, Dr. Nicole Seeberger will discuss the early work of Augusto Giacometti and explain the importance of color in his early creative phase.
