More by telepathy than by chance, it happened one day that the young Graham knocked on the door of the Pension Marthaler at the beginning of the seventies, at the beginning of his literature studies. Following a festive meal, which is subsequently described as scandalous and exuberant – depending on whose description you want to believe – the lanky boy became an actor and singer for Christoph, the host's son.

Christoph Marthaler and Graham F. Valentine conquered the theatre world together, zigzagging rather than directly. From performance to performance, Valentine developed "into a figure with a high recognition value, who conducted the unfortunate communities of purpose orchestrated by Marthaler with humour."

As a tyrannical butler, as an expressionless and stoic master of ceremonies, as an incompetent coordinator or as a blind tour guide, he always holds the strings in his hands, is a puppet himself in between, but always keeps track. The duo has settled down at the Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne for a few weeks to rehearse a new piece together with the Baroque gamba player and cellist Martin Zeller from Zurich.

The director, a radical yet humble innovator of the theater, a lover of culinary and family rituals, dedicates this performance specifically to his extraordinary actor and singer.
