The konzert studio chur presents the vocal ensemble Lamaraviglia on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 5 pm in the Comanderkirche Chur.
With the onset of the Reformation, thousands of persecuted people of other faiths left their homeland and fled from France and Italy to today's territory of Switzerland. They spread not only their ideas of faith, but also the melodies and lyrics of the Geneva Psalter. The translation of the Psalms into the respective national language created the prerequisite for this.
From the abundance of psalm settings created at that time, Lamaraviglia makes a selection that reflects the manifestation of the Geneva Psalter and the singing practice in the territory of Switzerland in the Reformation century. The ensemble focuses on the psalm motets of the Dutchman Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck with Rhaeto-Romanic text. On the basis of old sheet music prints from the Zuoz municipal archive and music manuscripts from the Chesa Planta in Samedan, the ensemble reconstructs the Rhaeto-Romanic textual psalms and thus revives a long-faded vocal practice in concert.
In a preliminary introductory lecture by Hansueli Walt at 3 p.m. in the Comandersaal, the participants will be introduced to the origin and history of the Effects of the Geneva Psalms.

Admission: 30.-/15.- free for pupils and students/for members and children up to

16In the middle of the 16th century, he infected the Reformed parts of Switzerland and the whole of Reformed Europe with a true Psalm fever: The Geneva Psalter.
The touching melodies of this collection of psalms in French inspired the most important composers of the time to a boom in polyphonic psalm settings. These quickly enjoyed incredible popularity and spread throughout Europe and to the most remote mountain valleys in Switzerland in no time at all thanks to transmissions into German, Italian and even Romansh. The Ensemble Lamaraviglia reports on this amazing journey in its current programme. It follows the traces of the Geneva Psalter through countries and languages, and comes across a very special "Swiss specialty": the Psalms by the Dutchman Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621), with Rhaeto-Romanic text, which the church choir of Zuoz in the Upper Engadine sang in the church at the end of the 17th century. With the powerfully archaic Geneva songs, the simple compositions of Claude Goudimel and the artistically radiant works of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, sung in all four Swiss national languages, Lamaraviglia promises a listening pleasure with an exciting cultural-historical background, which knows how to inspire Renaissance fans, lovers of the pure a cappella voice sound, language lovers as well as those interested in history and theology alike.
