Marlene Engelhorn is not alone in her opinion. She shares with other millionaires the vision of a fairer world: private excess wealth is undemocratic. She is involved in taxmenow, an initiative of wealthy people in German-speaking countries who are actively committed to tax justice and thus get big discussions rolling.

In the third and final episode of Reading Together Special "Money" by Marlene Engelhorn, the author herself is also present. Ueli Mäder, the well-known Swiss sociologist, and she will take part in the reading round and will be available with their expertise, experience and background knowledge for questions, discussions and explanations. The big question of the relationship between democracy and money is in good hands in the library of the University of Applied Sciences.

Ueli Mäder is a sociologist and professor emeritus at the University of Basel. His focus is on social inequality and conflict research. Ueli Mäder began his professional career in the management of a development organisation and as a lecturer at the School of Social Work (FHNW). From 2001 to 2004 he was an associate professor at the University of Fribourg and from 2005 to 2016 a full professor at the University of Basel. He is the former Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and History and winner of the International Erich Fromm Prize 2022.Ueli Mäder has published, among others, the studies "How the Rich Think and Steer" (2010), "Money and Power in Switzerland" (2015) and "To Have or To Be: Life Instead of Profit!" (2022). His most recent publication is: "Mein Bruder Marco" (2024).

Marlene Engelhorn is an Austrian-German activist and publicist. She grew up in Vienna and studied German at the University of Vienna. She is co-founder of taxmenow – Initiative for Tax Justice e.V. and the international alliance "Millionaires for Humanity". Marlene Engelhorn calls for a fairer tax policy with taxation of large assets and the increase or introduction of inheritance and gift taxes. She gained media notoriety when she distributed a large part of her million-dollar inheritance to numerous non-profit organizations via a citizens' assembly. At the Chur Theatre, she will be on stage in the production "Money is Class" on 17/18.09.2026.
