Kunstgespräch Noemi Pfister. Heart on Sleeve

Noemi Pfister (*1991) is the winner of the Manor Art Prize 2025 Graubünden and is realising her largest solo exhibition to date on this occasion. In the new paintings created for the exhibition at the Bündner Kunstmuseum, the Graubünden artist combines motifs from art history and popular culture. She symbolically combines topics such as youth, digitality, ecology and the body into multi-layered narratives. In their dreamlike landscapes, enigmatic figures linger that seem to come from a parallel world. Their bodies appear anatomically deformed. They linger on a terrace and squint into the sun, they do gymnastic exercises that are more game than training or drink energy drinks to fight off exhaustion. The pictorial worlds are sometimes reminiscent of the composition of works by the Old Masters, but the clothing of the figures, their postures or objects reflect the youth of our present. In the connection between the familiar and the ominous, her images explore what kind of future forms of communities we may be living in.
