Stadtgalerie: expressive, figurative, abstract
Riccarda Caflisch-Desax and Walter Schmid will share the Stadtgalerie from 30 August to 9 September and present their works to the public.
The idea of a joint picture exhibition arose from the interaction of Caflisch and Schmid in the Chur rock and blues band "Storklane": she as a singer and he as bassist and singer. Half a year ago, Schmid "stowed the instrument in a suitcase" in order to deal more intensively with forming forms of expression.
The urge to draw and paint was created by Schmid (1949) already in his youth. He accompanied him through his professional life as a photographer and journalist and is now more intense than ever.
At the center of his works presented in the Stadtgalerie is the human being, vaguely recognizable, sketchy, faceless, abstract or concrete. Various techniques serve him for this purpose: from simple graphite drawings to pictures in oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic to the combination of several painting media. In many works, stories can be recognized, often with a political and social touch.
Schmid was already present at the "Annual Exhibition of Graubünden Artists" of 1984. His last exhibition took place in autumn 2020 at the gallery «Kunst & Co» Hotel Stern in Chur.
Mountains and flower magic
Riccarda Caflisch-Desax (1963) noticed at a young age that drawing and painting was a liberating way for her to express her inner world. One of her central themes is the mountains of Graubünden, whose artistic representation she has been dealing with since 2012. This has resulted in works that allow an unusual view of the mountains. Since 2021, she has been developing a new technique with dried flowers on a special canvas. Some works from this new line will also be on display.
Her paintings have already been presented in various solo and group exhibitions in Switzerland; her first solo exhibition at the storchengasse temporary gallery in 1989, her last solo exhibition at Stellwerk Heerbrugg in 2019.Riccarda
Caflisch-Desax's second artistic expression is music. As a former member of the "Heppchor", she is now the lead singer of "Storklane" and "Chrutstil". Together with pianist Gaudenz Jehli, Riccarda will provide a musical interlude at the vernissage on 30 August.
