Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows have been at the forefront of the Australian music scene for decades. Famous for their high-energy live shows, musical prowess, and infectious rough, rootsy rhythms, the Black Sorrows have been active without interruption with recordings and performances since Joe formed the band in 1984. No musical style was left out, be it gospel or sweet soul, blues, country or rock'n'roll.

Joe Camilleri came to national prominence as frontman of the influential '70s r&b group Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons. After the dissolution of the Falcons, he founded The Black Sorrows with several independent albums. The great success came with the offer of a worldwide record contract by CBS/Sony. The Black Sorrows tirelessly made numerous concert tours in Australia, played in front of sold-out halls across Europe, achieved 18 Aria nominations and two Aria Awards, won numerous gold and platinum records and sold well over two million albums.

As the leader of two of Australia's most successful bands and with a musical career spanning fifty years, Joe was honoured by Rolling Stone Australia with the title living legend and was inducted into the Aria Music Hall of Fame in 2007. Versions of his songs have been recorded by a variety of other artists, from Elvis Costello to John Denver.
