What is racism? How does it manifest itself? How did it come about – and why? Why does racism continue? What does it have to do with social power relations? Am I racist myself without knowing it? How can I defend myself against racism?

The exhibition "Wir und die Andern. From prejudice to racism" conveys knowledge about racism, its origin and its functioning on 17 panels. It spans the arc from the era of slavery in North America, to Switzerland's economic and intellectual involvement in colonialism, to the 600 Yenish children who were taken away from their parents between 1926 and 1972, to the Black Lives Matter movement. There are answers to questions such as "Are we really all from Africa?" and "Why do people have different skin colors?" In addition, it is shown that mechanisms of racism also exist in today's society and our institutions – usually hardly visible – and lead to unequal treatment of minorities. Discrimination and racism are therefore among the social challenges facing our society.

With this travelling exhibition, the cantonal Integration Office invites visitors to reflect on racism. Take a look and exchange your views and experiences with us. We look forward to talking to you.
