«Beethoven und Bruckner» – Chorsinfonik

Despite its rather short playing time, the "Te Deum" impresses with its compositional range and emotional depth: powerful cathedrals of sound supported by the organ are juxtaposed with soulful solo passages. Even the deeply religious and particularly self-critical composer was satisfied with this, his most successful choral work, for once. This is evidenced by the following words, supposedly from Bruckner: "If the good Lord calls me to himself one day and asks: 'Where have you got the talents I have given you?', then I will hold out the roll of music to him with my Te Deum, and he will be a merciful judge to me."

The programmatic counterpart is Ludwig van Beethoven's "Christ on the Mount of Olives" on the eve of the 200th anniversary of his death. His only oratorio was written in the spring of 1803 in supposedly only two weeks and was not an opera for the sole reason that performances of such an opera were forbidden during Lent. Nevertheless, he implemented the plot of Jesus' arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane in an unusually operatic and dramatic way.
