Heiner Kielholz

Heiner Kielholz (*1942) is a great unknown in Swiss art. Around 1970, he belonged to the new Swiss avant-garde and exhibited internationally. After that, he largely withdrew, traveling for years without a fixed abode and developing a body of work that was nourished by the experiences of the places he visited and carried by an artistic attitude that explored the richness of what surrounds him and shapes his life. Since 1995, Heiner Kielholz has lived and worked in Poschiavo and Valtellina. He works continuously on a quiet work, mostly in small formats. He is particularly appreciated by artists and is represented in various art museums in Switzerland with important works. His exhibitions are rare, but are always very well received. While his last major exhibitions covered the spectrum of his themes broadly, the exhibition at the Bündner Kunstmuseum concentrates on the characteristic interiors and still lifes created over the last 15 years. They provide a unique picture of his special view of the world. Parallels are often drawn between Heiner Kielholz and the writer Robert Walser. He shares with him a love of the inconspicuous, everyday things in life.
