Henry Purcell: Dido & Aeneas

Description

"Dido and Aeneas": Opera by Henry Purcell

On 7 and 8 November 2026, the Chur Chamber Choir will perform Purcell's opera "Dido and Aeneas". Henry Purcell, born in 1659, is today considered the most versatile and imaginative English composer of the High Baroque period.
With the work Dido and Aeneas, the composer breaks with the rule of Baroque opera that an action must lead to a happy ending and creates one of the most magnificent scenes in opera literature. In addition to the fresh, lively, fast-paced plot, sung by three soloists and one soloist and played by the orchestra le phénix, the opera is characterised by a large, varied choral part, ranging from dancing and courtly choruses to demonic movements and fervent mourning at the end of the opera.

The Chur Chamber Choir cordially invites you to these concerts in the Knights' Hall of the Episcopal Castle.
