Klassik Forum Chur: Daniel Hope

Music Director Daniel Hope and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra present a true concert round dance in this festive concert at the beginning of Advent. It was Arcangelo Corelli who gave a firm form to the interplay between a small group of soloists and the orchestral tutti, and with these concerti grossi he went down in music history as one of the founding fathers of the Baroque instrumental concerto
. The concluding pastoral of his most famous concerto grosso bears the addition "fatto per la notte di Natale" – written for Christmas Night – and exudes a peaceful calm with its swaying rhythm. In the D minor Concerto for two violins and violoncello from Antonio Vivaldi's seminal collection L'Estro Armonico, there is also a moment of pastoral contemplation with the graceful Siciliano, embedded between the virtuoso dialogue in the outer movements. The work impressed even Johann Sebastian Bach
so much so that he reworked it into an organ concert. With his Violin Concerto in A minor BWV 1041, one of the noblest perfections of the Italian concerto, a solo concerto by the Baroque grandmaster concludes this evening.
