Natur verbindet – Im Einsatz für die Blumenvielfalt im Seidengut

In the Seidengut near Chur, neophyte control is the order of the day. Surrounded by mighty dry stone walls and exciting habitats such as hedges and fruit trees, we are committed to the diversity of flowers in this valuable area.

Together with the farmer Tinu Bieri and the farmer Flavia Brüesch, we maintain one of the most valuable areas in Chur. Together, we are freeing the silk material from neophytes and thus promoting flower diversity. If you have the time and inclination, you can help out in the afternoon with haymaking on another area of the farm.

Once upon a time, 10,000 mulberry trees were planted in the silk estate in Chur for the production of silk. Today there are hedges, fruit trees, mighty dry stone walls and colourful dry meadows.

"Nature connects" is a participatory project with which the WWF promotes biodiversity in our cultural landscape. For nature, for agriculture, for society: Farmers work hand in hand with WWF volunteers: they plant hedges and orchards together, maintain meadows and pastures, install nesting boxes and fight neophytes.


Program

We meet at 08:39 a.m. at the bus stop 'Chur, Krematorium' and reach the scene of the incident on a short but steep walk. Welcome by Yvonne and Flavia. Yvonne explains to us what needs to be done, takes us into the past of silk goods and shows us its development to its present state.

We enjoy our well-deserved lunch together in the sun or in the cooler shade on site. Freshly strengthened, they either go haying together with the farmer on another area of the farm, if they still have energy, or home if they need relaxation. Flavia Brüesch and Tinu Bieri tell us exciting things about their organic farm and their daily challenges. Before we start our journey home, we enjoy a snack together.

Requirements for participation
Good shoes, surefootedness (we are on steep terrain).
Those who can only be there in the morning or only in the afternoon - everyone is welcome.

Catering
Catering will be provided. Please indicate vegan / vegetarian / meat when registering. Please bring enough of your own drinks (min. 2-3 Lt.) and your own coffee cup.

Takeaway/Equipment
Good footwear (sturdy mountain boots above ankle height with good tread – no sneakers!), work clothes, sun or rain protection, sufficient drinks if available: work gloves (if you don't have any, you can borrow them from us) and a large screwdriver (tools are provided), your own coffee cup, personal medication.

Implementation
The final implementation will be informed by e-mail the day before (Friday, 12 June) at the latest. The operation also takes place in unfavorable weather.
