Sechs Monate in Kairo - Eine Werkschau des Kunstduos Buchli/Isenschmid

The art duo Buchli/Isenschmid is showing works from a six-month studio stay in Cairo. The stay was made possible by a studio scholarship from the city of Chur as part of the city conference Kultur SKK.

The focus was on materials, craftsmanship and encounters with local people. One starting point was the research on the color Egyptian Blue, the first synthetically produced pigment used in ancient Egypt. This resulted in contacts with craftsmen, artists and people from the archaeological environment as well as joint experiments and new works.
Papyrus also became the starting point for in-depth research. Via the material, which was initially perceived by tourists, the path led from the papyrus plant to workshops and people who work with it today.

The exhibition at the Stadtgalerie Chur provides an insight into the works and research that have emerged from these observations and encounters. Historical materials are connected to contemporary living and working environments.

Piera Buchli, who grew up in Haldenstein, and Luc Isenschmid, who grew up in Bern, now live and work in Versam. As an art duo, they combine ceramics, drawing, painting and installation approaches.
