Soft Machine (UK)

The Soft Machine is one of the most influential bands in experimental rock music of the late 1960s and 1970s. Founded in England in 1966, they fused psychedelic rock, jazz, and avant-garde into a novel style that later became known as the Canterbury Sound. With their bold use of complex rhythms, improvisation, and electronic sounds, the band had a lasting impact on both progressive rock and jazz-rock. With the same management as Jimi Hendrix, they were able to accompany him as the opening act on his U.S. tours. Both bands held each other in high regard. Their innovative approach influenced numerous musicians and made Soft Machine one of the most important pioneers of sophisticated, genre-blending rock music.
