Scheherazade neu erzählt
Description
What does an ancient tale sound like in today's language? And what does a young Scheherazade tell us in the 21st century? These questions are explored in the project, which will be realised as a radio play by the Literaturhaus Graubünden together with Jennifer Ribeiro Rudin's Graubünden cantonal school class 5Gc in spring 2026.
The starting point is the symphonic poem "Scheherazade" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The work is inspired by the oriental fairy tale collection "1001 Nights", whose protagonist Scheherazade subverts power structures with her storytelling talent and preserves her life with imagination and cleverness. This figure, which is located between tradition and resistance, opens up a wide range of possibilities for a contemporary artistic examination.
In a writing workshop lasting several days with the Graubünden author Romana Ganzoni, students from the Chur Cantonal School will develop their own texts that retell the old framework story. In doing so, they reflect on questions that also affect the reality of their lives: gender roles, power and self-determination, resistance and cultural diversity. Their stories, dialogues and scenes form the basis for a radio play.
