Kata Polak (sociologist and theatre maker) celebrates her directorial debut with this play. A current version of Molière's classic Tartuffe; a sharp-tongued, sensual and bitter comedy.
Kata believes in the universal power of this classic – in the timelessness of who we are when we know we are being watched – and who we are when we don't.
At the center is a shared apartment – a symbol of an urban reality with a housing shortage and constant digital noise. Tartuffe – a self-proclaimed healer, spiritual coach and master of self-dramatization, penetrates the lives of others with a soft voice and big words – until truth, trust and identity begin to crumble. Living together in a shared flat becomes a stream. Everything is filmed, commented on, and no one is left without guilt.
Inspired by Foucault's idea of the panopticon, @Tartuffe.live explores the question of observation and self-staging in the age of social media. Between obscene spirituality and an empty cult of authenticity, a panorama of modern characters unfolds – influencers, idealists, skeptics, seekers.
