Tamins

Tamins lies at a key geographical point: this is where the Vorderrhein and Hinterrhein merge and where routes cross towards the Domleschg, the Surselva and Chur. Despite its excellent connections, the village has retained its tranquil character – with peaceful residential areas and plenty of sunshine.

With around 1,200 residents and more than half of its area covered by forest, Tamins is a nature-oriented community with its own school, active local clubs and a strong sense of identity. Its proximity to Chur combines village life with urban accessibility.

The history of Tamins stretches far back – shaped by major bridge constructions, its proximity to the influential Reichenau estate and recurring village fires. The striking church above the valley still stands today as a witness to this eventful past.

From Tamins, the historic mule trail leads over the Kunkel Pass into the Taminatal and on to Vättis. Once an important trade route, the pass is now a popular destination for hikers and bikers. Rugged rocks, alpine vegetation and sweeping views make the Kunkel Pass a remarkable experience right on Tamins’ doorstep.

Reichenau Castle is located at the confluence of the Vorderrhein and Hinterrhein, where the Alpine Rhine begins. The historic 17th-century castle is now a winery and cultural meeting place, offering tastings, events and a unique atmosphere.

The ARCADA Bistro Tamins is a modern meeting place on the village square of Tamins. It serves fresh cuisine with French influences as well as Graubünden classics and invites guests to linger in its stylish interior or on the terrace.
