"Shadow of the Pinus", the first novel by the poet Martina Caluori, takes us to an almost deserted campsite somewhere by the sea: the old lady carries the silent memory of past generations; Phine struggles with the death of her mother; Bo struggles with the legacy of a repressive faith. Jochen, on the other hand, was abandoned by his wife and children, S. and Vira were given a voice for the fractures caused by wars and conflicts. Between pines (pinus) and spray, a network of relationships and memories unfolds on the campsite, which is not told linearly, but in fragmented streams. Caluori's novel, in which narrative passages are cleverly mixed with lyrical and multilingual insertions, breaks through traditional narrative structures and reflects the complex interplay of past, present and future.
