Gieri Battaglia: Why 13-year-old Johannes had to leave his village Feldis and was on his way to Paris unaccompanied

The retired primary school teacher Gieri Battaglia tells (with the help of many pictures) how there were many poor people in our area in the 18th and 19th centuries. Thousands of Graubünden residents had to emigrate to seek their fortune abroad. Some stayed forever. Others were homesick and returned to their homeland. In 1800, the 13-year-old boy Johannes Barandun from Feldis was also forced to leave his homeland. All alone and unaccompanied, he covered the long and arduous journey on foot to Paris.
