BUBBLES #3: Jon Bischoff – punct..

Jon Bischoff publishes a monthly drawing in the "In mais da pais" section of La Quotidiana that comments critically and humorously on social, cultural and political developments within Romania.

In the exhibition, .. in the tilde, these drawings step out of their usual context. For the first time, the original, textless drawings can be seen side by side, because Bischoff develops image and language separately from each other. What is brought together in the newspaper falls apart here. Without text, the drawings hint at events, but remain open. There is a tension between what is visible and what is left out. The three points challenge us as viewers to add meanings ourselves, to establish references, to activate memories. What was previously clearly located becomes open, ambiguous, sometimes even irritating.

In the juxtaposition of the works, motifs, themes, discourses and idiosyncrasies from the Rumantschia are condensed. At the same time, the drawings can be read as a commentary on a Rhaeto-Romanic bubble.

Jon Bischoff (*1983, GR) grew up in Casaccia in Bregaglia and studied comics and illustration in Milan. Today he works as a freelance illustrator and lives with his family in Vicosoprano.
