In addition to works by the tango composer Astor Piazzolla, works by the late Romantic composer Paul Juon from Graubünden will be performed. A special treat are the pieces for violoncello and piano by Luise Adolpha LeBeau, with which she was the only female participant in a composition competition in 1882 to win a prize. The pianist of the trio, Jürg Hanselmann, also contributes a piece. He recently completed his 3rd Piano Trio. The Segantini Trio has already been able to play this piece several times in concert and is pleased to be able to present the composition to the Chur audience.
The Segantini Trio consists of the musicians Franco Mettler (Switzerland) clarinet, Katharina Weißenbacher (Austria) violoncello and Jürg Hanselmann (Liechtenstein) piano. It is named after the painter Giovanni Segantini, who came from Austria and later worked stateless, mostly in Graubünden. The three musicians are united by their love of music and the arts, but also of the high mountains, which are often illustrated in Segantini's pictures. Experienced in numerous musical styles, the trio focuses on new compositions as well as works with jazz elements and earlier stylistic epochs. Inspired by Segantini's alpine triptych "Werden - Sein - Vergehen", Jürg Hanselmann composed his second clarinet trio "Triptychon" for the founding of the Segantini Trio in 2017.
