W.A. Mozart: Requiem Kantichor Chur, Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden

On 30 and 31 March, the Chur Canticle Choir will present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem in D minor KV 626 in St. Martin's Church in Chur together with the Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden. Under the direction of conductor Andrea Kuratle, the audience can expect an impressive performance. The solo parts are performed by Jennifer Ribeiro Rudin, who co-rehearsed the choir, soprano, Ingrid Alexandre, alto, Christoph Waltle, tenor and Chasper-Curò Mani, bass.

Probably no funeral mass is as shrouded in myth as that of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: the eccentric commissioner, Mozart's early death while composing in 1791 and the completion by his pupil Süssmayr – all this has produced the wildest stories and strangest theories over the centuries. But legends also have their good sides: thanks to the great, sustained interest from everywhere, the extraordinary joint work quickly rose to the highest spheres of church music. Today it is one of the most popular and most frequently performed pieces in the classical concert repertoire; it still inspires and touches everyone from amateur singers to orchestra musicians to audiences in equal measure. This Requiem is more than music; it is a journey through grief, faith and comfort. The "aperitif" to the Requiem is the world-famous Ave Verum, which Mozart composed six months before his death while he was working on the Requiem at the same time. It is the best-known setting of the medieval hymn and is particularly touching precisely because of its brevity and simplicity.
