Leave everything behind without writing a farewell letter? That's exactly what Julien had planned, the noose already around her neck, but then Maud unexpectedly comes home early. The two have been married for 30 years, Julien is a psychoanalyst, Maud a pianist. Now the two are taking stock for one night - about their lives and their love. Angry, passionate, witty, they wrestle with each other and with the big questions of life. Childhood memories are mixed with intimate confessions, radical questions of meaning and ruthless reckoning. A night to leave each other for good or to fall in love with each other all over again.
The new play La Note (original title, translated as "The Farewell Letter") by French author Audrey Schebat brings relevant social issues to the theatre stage: the married couple relationship in all its complexity, mutual dependencies and expectations, a failed suicide attempt and its consequences. The Farewell Letter is a tragicomic chamber play with two equal, complex, psychological roles, ups and downs as well as humorous and relentless scenes.
