Book launch

At the center of this book are five women from Poschiavo. They are all representatives of the Puschlav confectionery dynasties that enlivened the city centres in half of Europe with their cafés for 150 years. Based on an old photo of five women, Silva Semadeni accepted the challenge and spent weeks and months with her husband Ruedi Bruderer in archives in Poschiavo, Chur, Denmark and Spain. It was not easy to reconstruct the fates of the five women.
The experiences are unique, but nevertheless exemplary, not only for the Puschlaver but also for the Graubünden emigration of the confectioners as a whole. This meticulous study offers a new insight into the time and history of the women of this valley in Italian Grisons.
