In the newly initiated lecture series "Rendez-vous des arts", important topics on art and culture will be dealt with in one-hour lectures. The first focus is on the topic of "Art and Architecture".

Lecture "Away from the window! Is art leaving the field to architecture?"
Since the beginning of our century, at the latest since the global financial crisis of 2008, Western contemporary art has been on the path of privatization. It has become an emblem of economic inequality. Does art leave its function as a representation of the public sphere to architecture?

Philip Ursprung is Professor of Art and Architectural History at ETH Zurich. In 2023, he represented Switzerland at the Venice Architecture Biennale with Karin Sander with the exhibition Neighbours. Recent books include Joseph Beuys: Art, Capital, Revolution (Munich, 2021) and Gordon Matta-Clark: An Archival Sourcebook (co-editor, Berkeley, 2022).

Rendez-vous des arts is a collaboration between the Bündner Kunstverein and the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture at ETH Zurich.
